BLL Speech & Debate is an after-school program run by Brianna Lam. Her aim is to bring speech and debate to Burnaby, a suburb of Vancouver and her hometown. During her time in high school, Brianna recognized that the children in Burnaby had a very limited chance at learning speech and debate as most speech academies were concentrated on Vancouver's West Side. Additionally, she also recognized the financial barrier students faced if they were to seek out speech coaching. To change this, Brianna partnered up with her elementary school, Our Lady of Mercy School, to offer BLL Speech & Debate to the Gr. 5 through 7 students.
At its core, BLL Speech & Debate's goal is to make speech and debate accessible for everyone both location-wise and financially.
With 5 years of competitive public speaking and debate experience, Brianna is well-versed in the realm of speech. She has represented Canada on the international stage at the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition (IISPSC) and even became one of the few Canadians to be a double finalist at the competition in 2026. Additionally, Brianna came second place in Re:Solved, an international public speaking and debate competition hosted by Branksome Hall while also being a consistent competitor at the British Columbia Public Speaking Provincials. At the latest public speaking provincials, Brianna was 6th overall in the province, and made finals for both persuasive speaking and interpretive reading. She took top place in the Interpretative Reading category. In addition, Brianna has shone twice in the Canadian National circuit of public speaking while representing Team BC. At the Senior Public Speaking National Championships 2026 hosted by St. John's Ravenscourt School in Winnipeg, she was a finalist in both Parliamentary Debate and Interpretive Reading and placed 12th overall in Canada.
